We use hounds and hunt on snow mobile. The country consists of running old logging roads until we cut a track, so the hunt is pretty easy. The average length of hunt is only two or three days! There are also on-call hunts available. Lynx can be added in early December and bobcat can be added December through February. We use horses to get to this country and base camp. Hunting is on foot and usually stalked. Spike camps are located throughout my area. These bears are in the rut and are concentrated on the south slopes where the vegetation greens up first after the snow melts. Hunting style is spot and stalk, using 4x4 trucks for access.
Hunts are guided either 2 on 1, or 1 on 1. Hunt dates are from early May to mid June and due to the abundance of black bears in our area, the bag limit is 2 bears per hunter with most hunters harvesting a 6 foot or better bear.
